MUMBAI: A 60-year-old woman was cheated of gold ornaments worth Rs 1.2 lakh by a man posing as a policeman at Goregaon west on Monday. The accused accosted the victim, Joyce Lobo, near an under-construction site at BangurNagar. He told her that as neighbourhood was crime-prone, she would be penalized if she stepped out wearing jewellery.
Pretending to tie up her four gold bangles, each weighing 50gm, and a 10 gm gold chain in a handkerchief and placing them in Lobo's handbag, he made off with the jewellery. Lobo realized much later that she had been conned. She registered a complaint with the Bangur Nagar police, who are looking for the unidentified culprit.
