Santa Rosa Island Authority officials plan to announce a replacement
for a new director of administration by Monday after firing Russell D.
Scarritt on July 16 in the wake of his arrest on grand theft charges.
W.
A. “Buck” Lee, Island Authority executive director, said he and two
other department heads are serving as the selection committee and are
interviewing six candidates this week out of a pool of 50 applicants.
Lee hopes to have the new department head on the job by the end of the month.
Depending
on the applicant’s qualifications, the salary range for the job is
$54,175 to $57,325 and involves overseeing public records, Sunshine Law
compliance, leases, emergency preparedness, meeting schedules, legal
issues, and requests for proposals and qualifications.
Scarritt,
48, of Pensacola, had just marked his first anniversary with the Island
Authority when he was charged with allegedly stealing $18,000 worth of
Krugerrand and American eagle gold coins from Coin and Bullion of
Pensacola.
Scarritt worked at Coin and Bullion, a business
that trades in gold, silver and jewelry, before he was hired as the
Island Authority director of administration last summer.
His arraignment has been scheduled for Aug. 22. Read more
