A flirty design in youthful colours. |
WHEN Kate Middleton and Prince William appeared in a series of engagement photographs back in 2010, the world was stunned – not by the Duchess of Cambridge’s beaming face – but by her dress.
Yes, we’re talking about that sapphire blue wrap dress, the one with the elegant ruche detailing that skimmed over her curves so well.
Never mind its hefty price tag. Despite costing more than £500 (RM2,471), this iconic silk frock from British brand Issa was subsequently reproduced in the same shade and went on to sell out again and again, as women – or “copy-Kates”, as one magazine calls them – clambered to dress like their style icon.
Now, Issa has collaborated with Banana Republic – also one of the Duchess’s favourite high street stores – to reissue a “daywear” alternative to this dress. Made from jersey and priced at a fraction of the original, the dress may not be an exact replica but it’s certainly the next best thing for fashionistas.
These regal wraps (yes, there are several versions available) are part of a limited edition collection for Banana Republic’s pre-Fall 2013 line-up. Featuring 24 fabulous pieces of clothes and accessories, the collection pays homage to the “safari roots of Banana Republic and the spirit of an exotic journey”. Marrying modern femininity with relaxed chic, the collection marks the first time Issa has collaborated with a global retailer.
Keeping up with Kate: Made from jersey and priced at a fraction of the original, this dress is a daywear alternative to the Duchess’ regal wrap. |
In an interview with Elle UK, Banana Republic creative director Simon Kneen said they kept the Duchess in mind while designing the collection.
“I love her youthful femininity. I find it very timeless in a modern way. We wanted to design a collection that was versatile but playful, with bold prints and feminine silhouettes,” he remarked.
Fans can expect Issa’s signature bright dresses and preppy knits in a melange of exotic animal prints and girly silhouettes. Accessories, meanwhile, are African-inspired, from pebbled leather envelope clutches to statement necklaces, bracelets and leather wrapped bangles.
If it’s good enough for Kate, we’ll take it.
Available exclusively at Banana Republic stores in Suria KLCC and The Gardens Mall, Kuala Lumpur. Apparel is priced from RM249 to RM479, while jewellery and accessories range from RM149 to RM539.ReadMore
